[vc_row css=".vc_custom_1510666637370{margin-left: 0px !important;}"][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text="One Health Press Release" google_fonts="font_family:Roboto%20Slab%3A100%2C300%2Cregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal" el_class="res-title"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=".vc_custom_1510666548681{margin-left: 0px !important;}"][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Monday December 12th and under the initiative of One Health Committee of Hellenic Pasteur Institute, the first interdisciplinary meeting for the development of a One Health Net in our country was successfully organized in the premises of the Institute. The event was supported by the General Secretariat of Public Health (division of the Greek Ministry of Health), the Royal Institute of International Affairs “Chatham House” and the international organization “One Health Platform”.
One Health Initiative constitutes a global strategy for an interdisciplinary health approach, through the collaboration of different sectors of human, animal and environmental health. Microbial resistance to antibiotics, high levels of zoonotic infections, rapid environmental changes and population drift have all had an effect not only on animal and human health, but also on the economy, thus making necessary the holistic approach of One Health in the management of Public Health. In this context, it is important for the responsible institutions and scientific fields of the country to collaborate fast and effectively for the confrontation of serious public health issues that may constitute social, touristic or commercial threats.
The Secretary-General of Public Health of the Greek Ministry of Health, Dr. I. Mpaskozos, honored the event with his presence; he pointed out that the confrontation of public health threats in the context of One Health is of major importance to the Ministry and that it should constitute a stable issue in the constitutional agenda.
The meeting started with a series of speeches from representatives of institutions from all over Greece that proved, under different contexts, the necessity for the development of a One Health Net in our country. Director of EuAfME Strategic Alliances for Zoetis, Prof. T. Kanellos as the guest of honor and keynote speaker highlighted the future prospects of the One Health Platform globally. Prof. M. Manousakis, Hellenic Pasteur Institute’s General Director, initiated the discussion that followed, along with Prof. A Vatopoulos, Dean of the National School of Public Health, Prof T. Rozenberg, President of the Greek CDC (KEELPNO), and representatives of the Greek Ministries of Health and Rural Development and Food and Medicine and Veterinary Schools of Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa and Crete, as well as with members of the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation (ELGO-Dimitra), the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET), the Benaki Phytopathological Institute and representatives of private companies.
During the meeting all the representatives of the health institutions expressed their determination to focus and collaborate on One Health issues in Greece and to define a strategic plan for this vision. The Secretary-General of Public Health of the Greek Ministry of Health saluted Hellenic Pasteur Institute for its initiative to promote multilateral communication and cooperation between various health fields and committed to support One Health in an institutional way.
